Monastic Communities
of Jerusalem
Love.
Open your whole being to the love of God
with which God first loved you. Anchor yourself in this
certitude, the only onethat gives meaning, strength and joy to your
life: his love for you will never go away nor his covenant of peace
with you ever be overthrown. God's gift and his call are
irrevocable. He has engraved your name on the palms of his hands.
Jerusalem
Community
Rule of Life, § 1
The choice to bear the name
of "Communities" is
based on three main reasons.
First, because it's an
evangelical reality: Jesus clearly calls all his disciples to call
themselves brothers, and the apostles, Peter, Paul, John, all put it in
those terms.
Then because St Basile, father of the monks in the Eastern
Tradition and to whom we refer a lot, suggests that those who want to
live that way constitute "communities" (adelphotès).
Finally because,
in the current mentality and especially near the young generations,
this term is well received and the reality it evokes is well
appreciated.
Thus we followed the Scripture, the Tradition and the call
of the Church of this time.
