Liturgy of Jerusalem

The MCJ belong to the Catholic church and celebrate according to the latin rite, but they revive the sources of the Church of the first centuries' liturgy by integrating in their services some elements of the Eastern Tradition such as: gestures, songs, icons, incense, etc. Office

Their founder, Fr Pierre-Marie Delfieux, very quickly had the intuition that it was necessary for the Church, according to a formula that become famous because of the Pope John-Paul II, "to breath with its two lungs". Its new community had not to seek to create a new liturgy - that would have become old-fashioned well quickly - but to go back to draw on the sources of the non-divided Early Church's liturgy while integrating the contributions of the Second Vatican Council. Such is the disciple of the Kingdom who « brings out of his treasure things new and old ».  (Mt 13, 52) Because « liturgy can not be invented, writes Fr. Delfieux, it is to be welcomed. But it is welcomed to be lived through. So it is founded upon a whole tradition and is translated in an experience where a certain creation is not excluded ».

The MCJ sing three times per day in the Church which was entrusted to them by the bishop of the place. Monks and nuns celebrate together all the liturgies by linking their voices in a polyphonic song.  You can access the Midday and Vespers services or  the saturday night Eucharist sung by the MCJ at St. Gervais's in Paris by visiting the website of the Catholique TV on KTO.
